Hormone replacement therapy describes treatment to replace a hormone when clinically appropriate. APP helps visitors understand the questions to ask and provides a separate pathway to independent men’s testosterone evaluation.

HRT and TRT: understand the scope

Testosterone replacement therapy (TRT) is one form of hormone replacement. Menopause hormone therapy addresses a different clinical situation and requires its own evaluation. APP’s currently described hormone referral pathway is men’s testosterone evaluation through HeydayMD; this page does not establish a women’s treatment service.

Begin with symptoms, history, and appropriate testing

Fatigue, sleep changes, and body-composition concerns have multiple possible explanations. For men, the Endocrine Society recommends diagnosing hypogonadism only when symptoms and signs accompany consistently low testosterone. Treatment decisions belong to the licensed clinician.

Hormone replacement is a clinical decision

The phrase hormone replacement therapy does not describe one universal protocol. Testosterone deficiency, menopause symptoms, and other endocrine conditions require different histories, testing, treatments, and monitoring. A change in energy or body composition should not automatically be attributed to a hormone problem.

HRT and TRT: choose the right conversation

Menopause or perimenopause symptomsA clinician experienced in menopause care and an individualized discussion of treatment options
Fatigue or unexplained changes in weightA broader clinical assessment rather than assuming HRT is the answer

What to prepare before a clinical visit

Record the symptoms that concern you, when they began, and how they affect everyday life. Bring a current medication list, relevant prior testing, and questions about fertility or other personal priorities. Use the provider’s designated clinical intake for medical information; the general APP contact form is not a substitute for that process.

Questions to ask about treatment

  • What diagnosis explains my symptoms, and what other causes have been considered?
  • What are the expected benefits and the uncertainty for someone like me?
  • What risks, contraindications, and alternatives should we discuss?
  • What follow-up testing and symptom review will be needed?
  • How will we decide whether to continue, adjust, or stop treatment?

Hormone-replacement questions

Is HRT a weight-loss program?

A hormone evaluation and a weight-management plan address different questions. Treatment should have a clinical indication. For nutrition and training priorities, explore body recomposition or weight loss after 40.

Does everyone over 40 need hormones?

No. Age alone does not establish a diagnosis or a need for replacement. For men, appropriate testing and symptoms must be considered together.

Does APP currently offer a menopause treatment pathway?

The hormone pathway described on APP is men’s testosterone evaluation through independent HeydayMD clinicians. For menopause care, consult your own appropriate licensed provider.

Where do TRT and testosterone replacement fit?

They describe the same treatment category. Visit the TRT evaluation page to understand APP’s separate referral pathway.
