Healthy aging after 40: review the broader context and choose your next step.
VO₂ max is a measure of aerobic capacity. In this short video, Ageless Performance Project explores what the measure can tell you about cardiovascular fitness and why it matters when thinking about performance after 40.
VO₂ max describes the highest rate at which your body can use oxygen during intense exercise. It is one way to assess aerobic fitness. A measured result depends on the test protocol and your circumstances, so it makes more sense in context than as a stand-alone verdict on health or lifespan.
Regular aerobic activity can improve fitness across adulthood. A practical program may include manageable steady efforts, appropriately paced intervals and recovery. The right starting point depends on your health, training history and goals. If you are new to vigorous exercise or have cardiovascular symptoms, discuss an appropriate plan with a qualified clinician.
